Indie Sol Enrichment | North County San Diego, CA | Flexible / Part-Time to Start
Help us build the future of alternative education.
At Indie Sol Enrichment, we believe education should be rooted in curiosity, creativity, connection, and hands-on exploration—not conformity.
We’re a growing 501(c)(3) nonprofit creating inclusive, child-led learning environments where children explore nature, science, woodworking, clay, music, visual arts, practical skills, and so much more.
As we continue expanding our programs, we’re exploring the next chapter of our organization: developing the infrastructure and evaluating the feasibility of growing toward a charter-school model that could help us serve more families while staying true to our educational philosophy.
We’re looking for an experienced charter-school development professional who understands the California education landscape and can help us turn this vision into a practical, sustainable plan.
The Opportunity
This is a unique opportunity to work directly with our founder and director to evaluate, plan, and potentially develop a charter-school pathway for an established alternative education nonprofit.
We’re especially interested in someone who has firsthand experience with California charter-school development, including authorization, petition development, governance, compliance, budgeting, and operational planning.
The right person will help us understand what is realistically required, identify the best path forward, and build the systems needed to support long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities
Charter-School Development & Feasibility
- Evaluate the feasibility of developing a charter school aligned with Indie Sol’s child-led, experiential educational model.
- Advise on California charter-school authorization pathways, petition requirements, potential authorizers, timelines, and approval considerations.
- Help develop a strategic roadmap covering educational design, governance, staffing, facilities, funding, and operational readiness.
- Research applicable California charter-school laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Identify potential partners, consultants, authorizers, and other resources needed to advance development.
- Help leadership understand the financial, operational, and organizational commitments involved before major decisions are made.
Nonprofit Infrastructure & Governance
- Assess our current nonprofit operations and identify the systems needed to support sustainable growth.
- Strengthen policies, procedures, documentation, internal workflows, and organizational accountability.
- Help clarify governance responsibilities and identify where additional board, legal, financial, or educational expertise may be needed.
- Support strategic planning and capacity-building initiatives.
Operations & Organizational Development
- Develop scalable staff onboarding, training, and compliance systems.
- Improve administrative workflows and internal documentation.
- Help establish operational systems that reduce the administrative burden on leadership.
- Support grant implementation, progress documentation, and reporting as appropriate.
Required Experience
We are prioritizing candidates with direct, demonstrated experience in California charter-school development or leadership.
Our ideal candidate has:
- Experience launching, developing, authorizing, or operating a California charter school.
- A strong working knowledge of California charter-school law, authorization processes, petition requirements, and ongoing compliance.
- Experience with charter-school governance, organizational planning, budgets, and operational systems.
- The ability to assess feasibility, anticipate challenges, and create realistic development plans.
- Strong project management, research, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work independently and collaborate closely with nonprofit leadership.
Especially valuable:
- Experience preparing or supporting a charter petition through submission and approval.
- Familiarity with California school finance, Local Control and Accountability Plans (LCAPs), special education obligations, and reporting requirements.
- Experience with nonprofit board governance and the relationship between a nonprofit organization and a charter-school operator.
- Experience with innovative educational models, microschools, experiential learning, or alternative education.
Candidates with relevant expertise in only some areas are welcome to apply, but firsthand California charter-school development experience is our priority.

You’ll work directly with our founder, help shape important strategic decisions, and contribute to a vision that could expand access to meaningful, experiential education for more children and families.
