About this position

About the role

Creatd is a small cap public holding company in the creator economy. The consolidated group today includes two subsidiaries, with more entities coming. The finance function is currently one person. This role is a support role to the controller.

You are not slotting into a defined lane on a large team. You are taking on the recurring accounting work for a public company and doing it cleanly enough that the Controller can move upstream.

You will see technical accounting and capital markets activity that a senior accountant at a larger company would wait years to touch, including divestitures and discontinued operations, convertible debt, warrant and preferred equity transactions, and purchase price accounting. You will also tend to accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll. In exchange, you have to be the person who reconciles the account, ties out the schedule, and turns a request around diligently.

What you will do

The close. Month end close across all entities. Recurring journal entries, accruals, prepaid and fixed asset schedules, etc., with support that stands on its own.

Reconciliations. All bank, receivables, inventory, prepaids and brokerage accounts, accrued liabilities, payroll and debt, monthly, with supporting workpapers. Creatd holds actively traded brokerage accounts, so this includes realized and unrealized gain and loss tracking against custodian statements and mark to market at each period end.

SEC reporting support. Support the controller in building schedules and supporting workpapers behind the 10-Q and 10-K, tying the numbers to the financial statements, and keeping the tie out support to a standard an auditor can follow without a phone call.

Audit and review support. Preparing schedules and pulling documentation against the PBC list and turning requests around quickly during fieldwork.

AP, payroll, and treasury operations. Vendor bills, payment runs, payroll journal entries and reconciliation of payroll tax liabilities, multi state (NJ and NY), plus cash reporting.

Systems. QuickBooks Online across all entity files, Ramp for spend and card management, and the chart of accounts. We are standardizing a uniform account structure across entities. You will help finish that work and then enforce it as new entities come on.

What we are looking for

  • One to two years of accounting experience, some exposure to either public company reporting or public company audit clients is ideal. Big 4, national, or strong regional firm audit experience translates well here, as does an in house role at a filer, although not a requirement.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP with the judgment to know when a question is above your line.
  • Excel capability. Multi tab workbooks with clean, traceable formulas and no hardcoded plugs. Someone should be able to open your file cold and follow the logic from source document to journal entry.
  • QuickBooks Online experience is required. Exposure to Workiva or another SEC reporting platform is a plus, not a requirement.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and unfinished infrastructure. Some processes here are documented and clean. Others are being built right now.
  • Discretion. You will see material nonpublic information constantly.

Logistics

Full time, with hybrid flexibility for candidates in the New York area. Compensation commensurate with experience, with meaningful room to grow as the role expands. This position is expected to grow into an Assistant Controller seat.
