Background Check The Inspection Service criminal background check is conducted using United States information resources only (e.g., FBI fingerprint check, state and county checks). Functional Purpose Performs manual laboring duties in connection with custody of an office or building.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performs general laboring duties such as uncrating and assembling furniture and fixtures using bolts and screws for

assembly, loading and unloading supplies and equipment, and moving furniture and equipment. Stacks and organizes supplies in storage rooms and on shelves and replenishes cleaning and sanitary supplies and dispensers.

2. Removes trash from work areas, lobbies, and washrooms.

3. Maintains facility grounds using landscaping and cleaning equipment including, but not limited to, lawnmowers, edgers,

weed eaters, blowers, and pressure washers. Cleans sidewalks and driveways and removes debris, snow and ice.

4. Maintains and cleans equipment and tools, parts, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safe and efficient

operations. Maintains custody of necessary equipment, tools and supplies; uses washing machines, dryers as appropriate to clean and sanitize supplies.

5. Completes or initiates work requests, logs, and required records to track and document custodial and maintenance

activities; uses computer-based systems such as computerized maintenance management system. Communicates status updates and scheduled custodial and maintenance activities to fellow employees and management.6. Observes established safety practices and requirements to ensure the safety of self and others while performing custodial and maintenance activities (e.g., puts tools and equipment away, inspect tools and equipment for proper serviceability, maintains and uses issued personal protective equipment [PPE]), and creates safety tzones for various cleaning and maintenance activities such as, but not limited to, waxing floors, and high dusting.

7. Participates in training programs, classroom, on-the-job, and onsite at postal facilities using relevant systems and

applications. Completes required testing and certifications associated with training satisfactorily in a timely manner.

8. Performs cleaning and other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation which may require arduous exertion involving prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending and reaching, and may involve handling heavy objects, e.g., tools and equipment.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Applicants who qualify under this standard may be required to satisfactorily complete a prescribed training course(s) prior to assignment, reassignment or promotion.
