About this position
Cafe DeMi is a busy, women-owned neighborhood cafe in Teaneck, NJ serving breakfast, brunch, fresh salads, and made-to-order sandwiches. We’re a close-knit team that takes pride in quality ingredients, consistent food, and warm hospitality. We’re looking for a reliable, fast-moving cook to join our kitchen.
The Role
You’ll work the brunch line and the salad and sandwich station, preparing dishes to order during our busiest service hours. You’ll keep your station stocked, clean, and running smoothly, so every plate goes out looking and tasting right.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare brunch dishes to order, including eggs, toasts, pancakes/waffles, and other menu items
- Build salads and sandwiches to recipe and plating standards
- Handle daily prep: washing and cutting produce, portioning proteins, making dressings and spreads
- Keep the station stocked and organized before, during, and after service
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and storage procedures
- Label, date, and rotate product
- Communicate with front-of-house to keep orders accurate and on time
- Help with opening and closing duties and keep the kitchen clean
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ year of line, prep, or sandwich/salad experience in a busy kitchen
- Speed and accuracy during rush periods
- Strong knife skills and attention to detail and presentation
- A team player with a positive attitude who takes direction well
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work weekends
- Able to stand for long shifts
- Food Handler certification a plus
