Job Description

Position Overview

We are looking for a mechanically skilled, hands-on *CNC & Roll Forming Equipment Technician* to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and help manage automated light-gauge steel fabrication equipment.

Our primary machine is an *MF-200 automated roll-forming machine* used to manufacture light-gauge steel studs and tracks.

The ideal candidate does not need prior experience with this exact machine. We are looking for someone with strong mechanical aptitude and experience with CNC equipment, automated manufacturing machinery, industrial maintenance, electrical troubleshooting, fabrication equipment, or similar systems.

We want someone who can eventually take ownership of the fabrication equipment—from setup and programming through production, maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control.

There is also an opportunity to learn light-gauge steel framing and assist with field installation.

Primary Responsibilities

Machine Operation & Setup

- Set up and operate automated roll-forming equipment.

- Learn and operate the MF-200 machine control and programming system.

- Select and run production programs.

- Enter and adjust production dimensions and settings.

- Perform machine and profile changeovers.

- Set up the machine for different steel gauges, widths, stud sizes, track sizes, flange dimensions, and lip dimensions.

- Load steel coils and prepare material for production.

- Monitor production and make adjustments when required.

Maintenance

- Perform routine preventive maintenance.

- Lubricate bearings, rollers, chains, gears, and other moving components as required.

- Inspect equipment regularly for wear or alignment problems.

- Replace basic wear components when needed.

- Maintain maintenance schedules and service records.

- Keep machinery clean, properly adjusted, and production-ready.

Mechanical Troubleshooting

- Diagnose machine feeding problems.

- Troubleshoot roller alignment and forming problems.

- Adjust guides, rollers, straightening systems, cutters, and related components.

- Identify abnormal vibration, noise, wear, or mechanical movement.

- Diagnose dimensional inaccuracies in finished products.

- Assist with repairs and component replacement.

Electrical & Controls

- Perform basic electrical troubleshooting.

- Use a multimeter and other basic diagnostic equipment.

- Troubleshoot sensors, switches, limit switches, wiring connections, relays, motors, and related components.

- Identify electrical faults and determine when outside electrical or manufacturer support is required.

- Work safely around industrial electrical equipment.

Programming & Automation

- Learn the machine's control software.

- Load, modify, and manage fabrication programs.

- Understand how machine settings affect the finished product.

- Develop the ability to diagnose software or control-related production problems.

- Document working machine settings for repeat production.

Experience with PLCs, CNC programming, G-code, CAD/CAM, industrial automation, or programmable machinery is a strong plus but is not required.

Quality Control

- Measure finished steel profiles using tape measures, calipers, squares, and other measuring tools.

- Verify web width, flange dimensions, lip dimensions, overall length, hole locations, and straightness.

- Compare fabricated products against drawings and specifications.

- Identify production problems before large quantities of material are fabricated.

- Maintain consistent production quality and minimize scrap.

Future CNC Equipment

As our fabrication operation expands, this position may also operate and help maintain additional equipment such as:

- CNC machinery

- CNC plasma or laser equipment

- Press brakes

- Automated cutting equipment

- Additional roll-forming machines

- Metal fabrication equipment

Light-Gauge Steel Framing

Experience with light-gauge steel framing is a plus but is *not required*.

The right candidate may also be trained to:

- Read structural and architectural plans.

- Understand stud and track layouts.

- Assemble light-gauge steel wall panels.

- Install studs, tracks, headers, blocking, and related framing.

- Assist framing crews in the field.

- Understand how fabricated components are used during construction.

Ideal Background

We are especially interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

- CNC machine setup or operation

- CNC machining

- Industrial maintenance

- Electromechanical equipment

- Mechatronics

- Automated manufacturing equipment

- Roll-forming machinery

- Sheet-metal equipment

- Press brakes

- Metal fabrication

- Production machinery

- PLC-controlled equipment

- Industrial electrical troubleshooting

- Mechanical repair

Direct MF-200 experience is *not required*.

Preferred Skills

- Strong mechanical aptitude

- Comfortable working with industrial machinery

- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems

- Basic electrical knowledge

- Comfortable using a multimeter

- Ability to read mechanical drawings and measurements

- Accurate use of calipers and measuring tools

- Familiarity with CNC controls or programmable equipment

- Ability to learn new software and machine interfaces

- Attention to detail

- Strong problem-solving ability

- Ability to work independently

- Forklift experience is a plus

- Metal framing experience is a plus

The Person We Are Looking For

We are not simply looking for someone to stand at a machine and press a button.

We want someone who is curious about how the machine works and is willing to learn how to:

Set it up → program it → operate it → maintain it → troubleshoot it → repair basic problems → verify production quality → and eventually help train other operators.*

For the right person, this position can grow into a Lead Manufacturing Technician, Fabrication Manager, or Production Supervisor as the operation expands.
