Frenchette Bakery at the Whitney is part of The Frenchette Group, the team behind Frenchette, Le Rock, Le Veau d’Or, and Wild Cherry. Located inside the Whitney Museum of American Art, the bakery produces French breads, viennoiserie, and pastry with the same commitment to craft, product, and hospitality that defines all of our restaurants.
The Role
We’re looking for a skilled, detail-driven Cake Decorator to finish and decorate our cakes and pastries for the retail counter, special orders, and events across the group. You’ll work closely with our pastry and bakery leadership to execute a refined, classic French aesthetic with consistency and precision, at volume.
Responsibilities
- Finish, assemble, and decorate layer cakes, entremets, celebration cakes, tarts, and petits gâteaux to established specs
- Execute custom and special-order cakes, including inscriptions and client requests, on time and to standard
- Prepare and maintain finishing components: buttercreams, glazes, ganaches, piping, and garnishes
- Maintain clean, consistent presentation for the retail display throughout service
- Follow recipes, plating guides, and production schedules; flag shortages and quality issues early
- Uphold DOH and food safety standards, labeling, and proper storage
- Keep the station organized and contribute to a positive, professional kitchen culture
- Contribute ideas for seasonal and new products in collaboration with the pastry team
Qualifications
- (2+) years of cake decorating or pastry experience in a professional bakery, pastry shop, or high-volume restaurant
- Strong piping, writing, and finishing skills with a steady, clean hand
- Solid understanding of classic French pastry components and techniques
- Ability to work efficiently and consistently under production deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in presentation
- Reliable, punctual, and a team player
- NYC Food Handler’s Certificate (or ability to obtain)
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
