Job Summary
The Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse performs duties related to assisting the physician in the overall care of the patient. Good communication skills, typing skills, punctuality, and prior experience in the medical field are required. The applicant should be a team player and able to adjust to the job's requirements.
Responsibilities and Duties
The duties include, but are not limited to:
- Room patients, take histories, record in the electronic medical records.
- Check lab results, culture results, etc.
- Educate patient in preparation for procedures and in post-op care as required.
- Administer local anesthetic and similar injections as required.
- Set up a sterile field and assist with out-patient surgeries and procedures.
- Perform post-operative wound care and be available for instructions from the physician regarding the patients.
- Handle/process specimens and send specimens to the laboratory with necessary, accurate paperwork.
- Respond to phone calls for test results, medication refills, post-operative care, etc.
- Order medical supplies.
- Maintain cleanliness and stock patients' rooms.
- Ensure all equipment is in working order.
- Sterilize medical instruments/clean equipment.
- Keep appropriate logs regarding medications such as noting expiration date.
- Perform other clerical duties as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
Prior experience in the medical field is required.
