Position Overview

Are you a strategic thinker who understands the nuts and bolts of military communications? We are seeking a Tactical Communications Analyst to bridge the gap between complex engineering architectures and high-level defense policy. Supporting the DoW CIO in Arlington, VA, you will apply both operational insight and abstract problem-solving to shape the future of multi-domain communication networks.

This role requires a rare blend of deep technical/operational understanding of tactical waveforms and the conceptual flexibility needed to draft high-impact strategy and policy frameworks for high-visibility programs.

The Environment & Impact

This is a highly collaborative, fast-paced role designed for a professional who thrives in a dynamic environment. You won't be working in a silo; you will collaborate daily across your immediate team, interface broadly across the entire DoW enterprise, and routinely engage with senior leadership. Your ability to communicate technical realities to high-level decision-makers will directly impact national security architectures.

Location: Alexandria, VA (Client Site at Pentagon and Mark Center with limited telework)

Clearance: Active TS/SCI Required

Key Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize & Shape Strategy: Apply abstract, forward-thinking logic to develop robust communication policies, architectural strategies, and DoW issuances across multi-domain environments.
  • Technical Evaluation: Analyze high-impact systems engineering initiatives, ensuring tactical information networks align with broader mission capabilities and Open Systems Architecture goals.
  • Operational Advisory: Translate complex technical realities into clear, concise information papers, briefings, and decision documents for senior leadership.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Partner with cross-functional teams, tactical vendors, and Joint Staff stakeholders to synthesize diverse operational requirements into unified policy.
  • Senior Leadership Engagement: Partner closely with CIO team members and DoW stakeholders to brief senior leadership, providing the technical clarity and strategic context they need to make critical decisions.

Qualifications

  • Security Clearance: Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a technical field with 10+ years of relevant experience; OR any Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of relevant experience. (A Master's degree may substitute for 2 years of experience).
  • Technical & Operational Mastery: Strong foundational understanding of tactical communications hardware, software, and waveforms (such as Link-16, SINCGARS, SATURN, HQ, HF, BFT, or WREN).
  • Staff Experience: Proven track record as a staff officer or analyst within OSW, Joint Staff, or Service staff environments, with experience developing formal strategy documents.
  • Communication: Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to break down highly technical concepts for non-technical leaders.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with RF waveforms, communications gateways, and network infrastructure development or oversight.
  • Background in conducting rigorous programmatic research to solve ambiguous, multi-faceted problems.
  • Familiarity with Open Systems Architecture (OSA) development and implementation strategies.
