About WINNER

WINNER is a Brooklyn-based hospitality group built around great food, excellent coffee and bread, genuine hospitality, and welcoming neighborhood spaces. From our original bakery and butcher shop to WINNER in the Park and our growing collection of restaurants and retail locations - including our newest location at WINNER at Alloy in Downtown Brooklyn - we care deeply about quality, community, and taking care of our guests and our team.

We’re looking for a Cook 1 to join our culinary team at Alloy and grow with us.

The Role

The Cook 1 is an important member of the WINNER culinary team, supporting daily kitchen preparation and service under the direction of the Sous Chef and culinary leadership.

This is a great opportunity for a cook who wants to build strong culinary fundamentals, work with quality ingredients, gain experience in a busy restaurant environment, and continue developing toward greater independence and responsibility.

You’ll work alongside the culinary team to prepare ingredients, execute recipes, maintain stations, support service, and help ensure that every dish leaving the kitchen meets WINNER standards.

We’re looking for someone who is hardworking, dependable, detail-oriented, eager to learn, and proud of keeping their kitchen clean, organized, and running smoothly.

What You’ll Do
  • Prepare ingredients according to recipes, prep lists, production plans, and chef direction.
  • Complete daily mise en place, including washing, peeling, cutting, portioning, weighing, and other preparation.
  • Execute basic cooking techniques and prepare proteins, vegetables, grains, sauces, stocks, and other menu components.
  • Follow recipes, specifications, cooking times, temperatures, and quality standards consistently.
  • Support daily restaurant service and work efficiently during high-volume periods.
  • Assist with station setup, service execution, breakdown, and closing procedures.
  • Maintain an organized and properly stocked station throughout service.
  • Plate and present food according to WINNER standards.
  • Monitor product quality, appearance, temperature, and portioning.
  • Properly label, date, store, and rotate ingredients using FIFO practices.
  • Communicate clearly with chefs and teammates about production progress, timing, product quality, missing ingredients, or other concerns.
  • Keep workstations, equipment, and kitchen areas clean and organized throughout the shift.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, allergen, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Take care of kitchen tools and equipment and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
  • Participate in training and continue developing knife skills, cooking techniques, recipes, and kitchen knowledge.
  • Support other stations and teammates as needed to maintain a smooth and successful service.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as your skills and experience develop, with the opportunity to progress toward Cook 2 and greater culinary responsibility.
What We’re Looking For
  • Previous professional kitchen, restaurant, catering, or food production experience preferred.
  • Basic food preparation and cooking skills.
  • Ability to follow recipes and written and verbal direction.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • A positive, collaborative attitude and willingness to receive coaching and feedback.
  • Strong commitment to cleanliness, food safety, and quality.
  • A genuine interest in cooking and developing your culinary skills.
  • Food Handler certification preferred where applicable.
  • Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Why WINNER?
  • Competitive hourly compensation
  • Paid Sick & Safe Leave in accordance with New York law
  • 401(k)
  • Commuter benefits
  • Employee dining and product discounts
  • Training and opportunities for professional growth
  • The opportunity to develop your culinary skills alongside an experienced team
  • The chance to be part of the opening team at one of WINNER’s newest locations
What Success Looks Like
