ABOUT THE ROLE

Berkot is hiring an Accounting Supervisor to own day-to-day accounting operations across Berkot's Super Foods. Berkot is growing, and we are investing in our accounting systems and processes so they can scale with the business. This person is the Controller's right hand. They keep the books accurate and on schedule, lead the month-end close, and step in for the Controller when needed.

This is a hands-on role. You will do the work yourself and also review and guide others. It suits a strong senior accountant who is ready to take on leadership and grow toward Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Transaction processing

- Oversee billing and invoicing, cash application, and collections, and keep AR aging current.

- Manage payroll processing and payroll journal entries, working with HR or the payroll provider.

- Prepare and post general ledger and journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, deferred revenue, and allocations.

- Own inventory accounting, including inventory reconciliations, research of variances, and adjustments.

- Oversee bank reconciliations, credit card, and balance sheet accounts every month, and research variances.

- Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.

- Handle employee expense and corporate card reconciliations.

Close and reporting

- Own the weekly financials and deliver them to the Controller on schedule.

- Run the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close calendar, and drive deadlines.

- Review the team's reconciliations and entries before they reach the Controller.

- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and variance commentary.

- Prepare supporting schedules as needed, including for the annual audit or review.

- Help prepare the quarterly and annual budgets.

Right hand to the Controller

- Act as the Controller's backup and the primary point of contact for the Accounting team.

- Coordinate across accounting functions so payables, receivables, accruals, and cash stay in sync.

- Document and improve processes, controls, and month-end checklists.

- Help design and implement system improvements and automation to support Berkot's growth.

- Take on special projects and ad hoc analysis as needed.

People leadership

- Supervise, train, and review the work of staff accountants and specialists.

- Assign daily work, set priorities, and give feedback.

- Enforce segregation of duties and internal controls across the team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

- 4–7 years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle month-end close.

- At least 2 years of direct people management experience: supervising, training, and reviewing the work of accountants or accounting specialists.

- Hands-on experience with AR, cash application, payroll accounting, inventory accounting, and account reconciliations.

- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, and general business concepts, practices, and procedures.

- Advanced Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables) and experience with an ERP or accounting system.

- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

- Excellent communication, organization, diligence, and time-management skills.

Preferred

- CPA, or progress toward it.

- Public accounting or audit experience.

- Experience preparing audit schedules and financial statements.

- Experience improving processes or implementing accounting systems.
