Kitchen Manager, Masa

Masa, Chef Masa Takayama’s two Michelin starred restaurant at Columbus Circle, is looking for a Kitchen Manager to run the back of house operation across Masa and Bar Masa.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who has managed a high-volume, high-standard kitchen and wants to work alongside one of the most respected chefs in the world. You’ll own the people side of the kitchen, hiring, scheduling, training and development, and the operational side, inventory, ordering, food cost and Department of Health compliance, so the chefs can focus on the food.

What you’ll do

  • Hire, schedule and develop the BOH team, managing labor and overtime
  • Build and run training programs for every BOH position, from onboarding through probationary reviews
  • Own inventory, ordering, food cost and waste, and keep the tracking system current
  • Keep the kitchen DOH compliant at all times and ready for inspection
  • Identify and fix workflow and quality control issues before they reach the guest
  • Partner with the Director of Operations and HR on staffing, time off and performance

What we’re looking for

  • 5 or more years of kitchen management experience, fine dining or high-volume preferred
  • NYC Food Protection Certificate
  • Working knowledge of NYC Department of Health standards and New York labor law
  • Comfortable with Microsoft 365, spreadsheets and POS systems
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in English. Spanish or Japanese is a plus
