About this position

Job Description

Job Description

Grizzly Iron has been fabricating and installing custom steel in the Valley since 1987. We're a family-owned shop, and we build structural and ornamental ironwork for luxury homes across Phoenix and the surrounding areas. Stairs, railings, gates, canopies, beams, and columns. The work is demanding, and the standards are high, which is exactly why the jobs are worth doing.

We're looking for skilled ironworkers who can run both sides of the job, fabricating in the shop and erecting on-site. You'll be in the shop some weeks and in the field others, so we need people who are comfortable switching between the two and who take pride in work that has to look as good as it holds.

We're growing, and we're building the team to match. If you're talented, safety-minded, and eager to keep learning, there's room here to move up.

The hourly rate is negotiated after an in-shop weld test and interview.

Compensation:

$25 - $35 hourly

Responsibilities:
  • Read and understand architectural blueprints

  • Read and understand detailer drawings, including weld callouts

  • Maintain and inspect all equipment used daily

  • Understand the complexity of both structural and ornamental steel installations

  • Work all facets of installation on assigned jobs

  • Meet all safety requirements on site

  • Maintain schedules to keep jobs on time and on budget

  • Apply standard welding processes and practices, primarily MIG and flux-cored

  • Assess situations and problem-solve

  • Operate standard fabrication shop equipment

Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of field installation experience

  • Clear understanding of installation practices for stairs, columns, beams, and balcony rails, plus ramadas, canopies, trellises, fences, and gates

  • Certified welder, or able to test for certification

  • TIG welding is a plus

  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards and PPE safety practices

  • Able to operate forklifts, reach lifts, and augers, and direct cranes

  • Experience loading and strapping down steel for transit

  • Experience unloading, including rigging and picking, with safety always first

  • Bilingual is a plus

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

  • Willing to submit to a background check if required
