About this position

Mechanical Engineer

Troy, OH | Full-Time | On-Site

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to help design and develop next-generation industrial electrification products, including advanced battery systems, charging solutions, and power conversion technologies. This is a highly hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving complex mechanical design challenges while working closely with manufacturing, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams to bring innovative products from concept through production.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned product engineer with extensive experience designing manufacturable industrial products using steel weldments, sheet metal, machined aluminum, and plastics. While experience with battery systems is highly desirable, the most important qualification is a proven ability to develop robust mechanical designs and successfully transition products from engineering into manufacturing.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to help build and shape a growing U.S. engineering organization while working within a collaborative international engineering environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and improve mechanical components and assemblies for industrial battery systems, charging equipment, and related electromechanical products.
  • Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation using CAD software.
  • Lead product development activities from concept through prototype, testing, manufacturing, production launch, and continuous improvement.
  • Design products with a strong focus on manufacturability, quality, reliability, cost optimization, and long-term serviceability.
  • Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Engineering teams to ensure successful product launches and production support.
  • Develop mechanical solutions utilizing steel weldments, sheet metal, machined aluminum, plastics, and other manufacturing materials.
  • Resolve production issues through root cause analysis, design improvements, and engineering change implementation.
  • Support supplier selection, qualification, and technical collaboration throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Participate in product testing, validation, and verification activities to ensure designs meet performance and safety requirements.
  • Support third-party product certification efforts by collaborating with external testing and certification organizations.
  • Partner with customers and internal stakeholders to understand technical requirements and deliver practical engineering solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of engineering best practices as the U.S. engineering team continues to grow.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, value engineering, and cost reduction while maintaining product performance and quality.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years of mechanical product design experience (or 5 years with a Master's degree) in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience designing products using steel weldments, sheet metal, machined aluminum components, and plastics.
  • Proven experience taking products from concept through prototype, testing, manufacturing, production launch, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), tolerancing, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience collaborating directly with manufacturing teams to resolve production and product design challenges.
  • Excellent mechanical problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality organizations.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while managing multiple engineering priorities.
  • Demonstrated ownership mentality with strong decision-making and leadership potential.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Experience performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA/FEM) and thermal simulations.
  • Experience designing electromechanical products, battery systems, charging equipment, or industrial power systems.
  • Experience working with third-party certification agencies and designing products to certification requirements.
  • Customer-facing engineering or technical project leadership experience.
  • Experience with supplier qualification, supplier development, and technical vendor management.
  • Demonstrated success with value engineering and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Experience in industrial battery, motive power, or energy storage product development.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical projects.
  • Familiarity with global product development and cross-functional engineering collaboration.
