Snow Plow Operator Job Description
A Snow Plow Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently removing snow and ice from roads, parking lots, sidewalks, driveways, and other designated areas during winter weather events. Operators help maintain safe travel conditions for vehicles and pedestrians by operating snow removal equipment and applying de-icing materials as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate snow plows, skid steers, loaders, tractors, and other snow removal equipment.
- Clear snow from parking lots, roadways, sidewalks, and walkways.
- Apply salt, sand, and de-icing products to prevent slippery conditions.
- Monitor weather conditions and respond promptly to snow and ice events.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections.
- Report equipment malfunctions and maintenance needs.
- Follow all safety procedures and traffic regulations.
- Maintain accurate service logs and records.
- Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts during storms.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license (CDL preferred for larger equipment).
- Experience operating snow removal or heavy equipment preferred.
- Ability to work outdoors in cold and adverse weather conditions.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Reliable transportation and availability for on-call winter operations.
