About this position

Drone Pilot | Part-Time, Hourly | Oklahoma

Interested in drone technology and weather observation? Are you safety-minded, dependable, and comfortable working in the field?

Join Meteomatics, a leading provider of high-resolution weather and climate data! We are looking for part-time, hourly employees to support our drone operations. You will initially work alongside a drone pilot at Kessler Field, with opportunities to support additional sites across Oklahoma as we expand. You will stay in regular contact with and receive support from our team in Switzerland, our central hub.

In this role, you will help prepare, conduct, and document UAS missions supporting weather observation and related field operations. Hexacopter experience is preferred but not required: we welcome applicants with experience on other multirotor platforms who are ready to learn our aircraft and procedures.

This position is linked to a project with funding currently secured until March 2027. Continued employment beyond this date will depend on the extension of project funding and operational needs.

Your responsibilities

  • Support preflight planning, site readiness, launch, recovery, and postflight checks.

  • Operate or assist with multirotor UAS missions in accordance with Meteomatics procedures and applicable FAA requirements.

  • Inspect aircraft, batteries, dock, and related equipment; report damage or irregularities.

  • Record mission details, equipment status, and operational observations.

  • Maintain clear communication with the Meteomatics team and follow site access and safety procedures.

  • Help keep the operating area organized and ready for scheduled missions.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience flying hexacopters or other multirotor UAS is preferred.

  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, with a minimum of two years’ experience, is preferred.

  • Familiarity with preflight inspections, battery handling, and safe UAS operating practices.

  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and clear communication.

  • Ability to work independently and follow written procedures.

What we offer

  • A part-time, hourly employee position with flexible scheduling based on operational needs and your availability.

  • Approximately 10–30 hours per week, with hours varying from week to week. We are open to hiring one person for more hours or several employees for fewer hours each.

  • Hands-on experience supporting innovative weather-observation drone operations.

  • The opportunity to work with the Meteomatics team and learn our aircraft and operational procedures.

Meteomatics is transforming how weather data is used globally, enabling companies to make more informed decisions that reduce environmental impact, improve safety, and drive success. If you’re passionate about weather technology and want to contribute to this exciting field, we’d love to hear from you!
