Job description: Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC)
Twin Cities Metro Suburb | Minnesota Full-Time | $65,000 - $75,000 annually
Otsego, Minnesota Only Full-Time | $70,000 – $82,000 annually
ABOUT THE ROLE
The LADC delivers substance use disorder treatment within NorthStar Regional's co-occurring treatment program, spanning assessment, treatment planning, individual and group counseling, crisis support, and continuing-care planning. The role works in close partnership with mental health, medical, nursing, and recovery colleagues to address the interconnected needs that shape each client's treatment and long-term recovery.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the primary substance use disorder clinician for an assigned caseload, providing individualized, client-centered care throughout the treatment experience.
- Complete comprehensive assessments and develop individualized treatment plans reflecting each client's clinical needs, strengths, goals, and barriers to recovery.
- Provide individual counseling using evidence-based approaches that build insight, strengthen motivation, and support behavior change.
- Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups addressing substance use, co-occurring mental health needs, and practical recovery skills.
- Deliver clinical interventions supporting relapse prevention, emotional wellness, and healthy coping skills.
- Assess and respond to acute emotional, behavioral, and substance use concerns, providing crisis intervention and de-escalation within the LADC scope of practice.
- Recognize significant changes in client presentation, functioning, or risk and respond with appropriate clinical intervention and escalation.
- Partner with mental health, medical, nursing, care coordination, and peer recovery colleagues, and participate in clinical staffing and treatment team meetings.
- Lead continuing-care and discharge planning, coordinating services and resources to support successful transitions.
- Complete clinical documentation accurately and within established timeframes, in accordance with licensing, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
REQUIRED
- Current Minnesota Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) license in good standing.
- Minimum three years providing substance use disorder treatment, including individual counseling and group facilitation within a DHS licensed program.
- Experience working with individuals with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders.
- Knowledge of evidence-based substance use disorder treatment approaches, including motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, and stages of change.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strong therapeutic boundaries.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and working knowledge of HIPAA requirements.
- Knowledge of Minnesota Statutes Chapter 245G and other applicable regulatory requirements.
PREFERRED
- Five or more years providing substance use disorder treatment.
- Advanced training or experience in co-occurring disorders, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, or crisis intervention.
- Experience working across a continuum of care, including transitions between residential, intensive outpatient, and community-based services.
