A contract opportunity is available for a skilled RN to support a 1st grade student who is Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) near Denton, TX. This position involves providing dedicated nursing care during school hours and on the school bus, Monday through Wednesday, from 6:30 AM to approximately 4:00 PM.

Your expertise with tracheostomy care and providing oxygen PRN is essential for this role. You'll be an integral support in the student's educational journey, helping foster verbal skills and participating in sign language communication along with staff and the student. The position is onsite only, requiring you to ride the bus with the student to and from school, ensuring their well-being throughout the commute.

Qualifications:

  • Current, unrestricted RN license.
  • Recent experience with trach and oxygen-dependent students.
  • Background in school nursing, especially supporting students in special education settings.
  • Competency with sign language, or willingness to collaborate using this mode of communication.
  • Able to commit to part-time hours: Monday-Wednesday, 6:30 AM-3:45/4:00 PM.
  • Compassion, adaptability, and strong observation skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct nursing care to a 1st grade DHH student, including trach and oxygen support as needed.
  • Foster a supportive environment for verbal communication development, primarily through sign language.
  • Ride the school bus with the student each day, ensuring safety and health protocols are met during transit.
  • Document daily care provided and communicate effectively with school staff and family.
  • Serve as a health resource and advocate for your student within the school environment.
