About this position

Title: Assoc / AVP – Project Finance, Portfolio Management & Deal Execution

Office Status: Hybrid – New York, NY

Base Salary: $100,000 – $175,000 + Bonus (level commensurate with experience)

Overview:

This opportunity sits within the Project Finance team of a well-established global financial institution, offering a well-rounded mandate spanning deal execution, portfolio management, and first-line risk and internal controls oversight across a diversified project finance portfolio covering digital infrastructure, LNG, power, and broader energy sectors. The role combines hands-on transaction support — financial modeling, due diligence, credit approval coordination, and financing documentation — with ongoing portfolio monitoring, risk and controls execution, and a meaningful Risk and Internal Control Officer function. The position will be leveled at Associate or Vice President depending on experience; more senior candidates will take on greater portfolio management and RICO responsibilities while more junior candidates will focus primarily on deal execution and analytical support. It’s an ideal fit for a project finance professional with 3–7 years of experience at a major financial institution who combines strong financial modeling skills and sector knowledge with the organizational discipline to manage both live transaction workstreams and ongoing portfolio and controls obligations. Mandarin Chinese proficiency is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support senior team members in originating and executing project finance mandates across infrastructure, power, LNG, and energy sectors; lead select deal workstreams independently as experience and deal flow warrant
  • Review teasers and preliminary deal information; prepare and deliver initial analyses covering sponsors, offtakers, EPC contractors, and project fundamentals; assist in the preparation of marketing presentations and initial credit reviews to support smooth approval processes
  • Build, maintain, and stress test detailed project finance financial models; perform scenario and sensitivity analyses to assess project economics, debt sizing, and credit metrics across a range of operating assumptions; present model outputs to internal stakeholders and Head Office teams
  • Conduct country and sector research including political, economic, cultural, and project finance market assessments across North America, Latin America, and other relevant regions
  • Assist in the selection of technical, legal, and other third-party consultants; read and review due diligence reports; manage Q&A processes with consultants, advisors, and Head Office
  • Assist in coordinating credit approval Q&A with Head Office; prepare and organize issue summaries and responses to support timely credit committee processes; draft credit applications and perform credit analysis on an ad-hoc basis
  • Read and review Financing Documents including Term Sheets and definitive documentation; support negotiation of key credit terms and assist Head Office with documentation workflow; function as deal closing coordinator on an as-needed basis
  • Conduct periodic portfolio reviews and prepare reports for senior leadership covering portfolio performance, KRI and EWI tracking, and proposals for rating upgrades, downgrades, watchlist designations, and portfolio optimization initiatives
  • Monitor the project finance portfolio on an ongoing basis; track covenant compliance, borrower financial performance, and emerging risk developments; develop action plans for problem loans in collaboration with relationship managers and internal credit and monitoring departments
  • Manage timely submission of credit reviews and covenant uploads into internal systems; track ratings, LGD approvals, economic capital allocations, on-site visit requirements, and ongoing compliance obligations
  • Act as the Risk and Internal Control Officer for the Project Finance business unit at the VP level; lead execution of business unit risk assessments including RCSA, NPS, BIA, and CCRA; perform periodic control testing and lead issue management activities including identification, action plan design, remediation tracking, and issue closure
  • Validate and maintain ORM KRI metrics; coordinate with internal departments on remediation plan implementation; collaborate with Accounting, Legal & Compliance, Credit Administration, and Risk Management on compliance and risk-related workflows
  • Manage post-closing portfolio responsibilities including coordination with Agent Banks and Borrowers; participate in transaction counterparty calls and meetings; support Head Office teams by organizing issues and preparing Q&A responses
  • Prepare KYC due diligence for new projects; maintain departmental policies, procedures, and manuals; serve as backup to relationship managers on client coverage activities as needed
