We are seeking a Truck Engineer with strong technical experience in automotive and/or rail engineering to support the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of locomotive truck subsystems.
The ideal candidate is technically strong, comfortable working across engineering functions, and able to take ownership of assignments and drive them through completion with minimal direction.
Key Responsibilities
- Define locomotive truck subsystem architectures, components, and technical specifications in accordance with engineering processes.
- Develop, manage, and maintain subsystem requirements and requirements traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
- Coordinate technical interfaces across mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, sourcing, service, and systems engineering teams.
- Ensure truck subsystem designs meet customer, safety, regulatory, reliability, and performance requirements.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including:
- Engineering specifications
- Design records
- Test plans
- Validation and verification reports
- Engineering change documentation
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI), product enhancements, productivity initiatives, service programs, and reliability projects.
- Develop and maintain component and subsystem design standards.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, root-cause investigations, and corrective-action activities.
- Work closely with manufacturing and service teams to troubleshoot and resolve production and field issues.
- Analyze system and component performance data and recommend design improvements to enhance reliability and reduce lifecycle costs.
- Support testing, validation, verification, and qualification of truck components and assemblies.
- Maintain accurate engineering records and leverage technical documentation for training, knowledge transfer, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, customer specifications, and internal engineering requirements.
- Take ownership of assigned engineering tasks and support project schedules, milestones, and overall program objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Strong technical engineering experience in automotive and/or rail applications.
- Ability to independently take ownership of engineering assignments and drive tasks from definition through completion.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of engineering design, requirements, documentation, testing, and validation processes.
- Ability to analyze technical issues, identify root causes, and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with locomotive, rail vehicle, heavy equipment, or automotive truck/chassis systems.
- Experience with subsystem architecture and component specifications.
- Experience supporting NPI, product development, reliability, or product improvement programs.
- Experience with engineering change processes, design reviews, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with safety, regulatory, and industry standards applicable to rail or automotive products.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, technically proficient engineer who can work independently, communicate effectively across multiple engineering functions, and turn a defined requirement into a completed engineering deliverable. Experience in rail or automotive systems is highly valuable.
