Job Description
Title: Multi-Trade Craftsman, Remodeling & Repair | Tile, Drywall & Finish Craftsman | Residential Home Services
Location: Charlotte, NC. In-person, in clients' homes. JC service area is the older neighborhoods south of downtown Charlotte (Myers Park, Dilworth, Eastover, Cotswold, Foxcroft area).
Pay: $30 to $40 per hour. W-2. Full-time.
Benefits: Company van and gas card. Tools provided. Performance bonuses up to $10,000 annually. Year-end profit sharing. Flexible schedule.
About us
Joyce | Cline isn't a handyman company. We're a boutique home services firm that the families in Myers Park, Dilworth, and Eastover trust with the keys to their homes. We do everything from changing the batteries in smoke detectors to small renovation work — remodeling punch lists, trim and finish carpentry, tile, drywall, doors, hardware. Most of our clients have been with us for years. They send their friends. We answer the phone, we show up when we say we will, and we treat the work like it's our own house.
We're hiring our next craftsmen.
About the role
You'll be in clients' homes most days, working through remodeling punch lists, trim work, small renovations, and the things that need a craftsman's hands. You'll work alongside our field leadership and report up through Operations. You'll get your own van, your own schedule, and your own client relationships. Within a year, repeat clients will be asking for you by name.
What a Tuesday looks like
- 8:00 a.m. — You leave home in your JC van. Today is a half-day in Myers Park (interior trim around three windows, a sticking door) and a half-day in Dilworth (small bathroom remodel punch list before the homeowner lists the house).
- 8:30 a.m. — You greet Mrs. Whitfield at the door. You know her name because you've been here before. You walk the trim work together, set expectations, and get to work.
- 12:00 p.m. — You log the morning in Jobber: photos before, photos after, notes, time. You drive to Dilworth.
- 12:30 p.m. — Lunch. We don't expect you to skip it.
- 1:00 p.m. — You work the Dilworth punch list. You text field leadership about one item that needs a different trade. He routes it.
- 4:30 p.m. — You wrap, clean up, log, and head home. The van comes home with you.
- 5:00 p.m. — You're off. No on-call.
What you'll own
- Quality of the work. You hold the standard that built JC's reputation. B-minus is unacceptable.
- Client relationships. You make the homeowner feel taken care of, every single visit.
- Documentation. Every job logged in Jobber with photos, notes, and time.
- Your van. You keep it clean and stocked. It's a rolling billboard.
- Coordination. You communicate up to field leadership and across to the office team via Discord.
Who you are
- You've been doing residential remodeling and repair work for years. Five-plus preferred. Trim and finish carpentry, interior repair, small bathroom and kitchen renovation punch lists, drywall, tile, paint, doors, hardware.
- You're a finisher. You take pride in the cuts being clean and the caulk lines being straight.
- You can hold a real conversation with a homeowner about their grandkids, their renovation history, and their plans for the house. You don't disappear into the work.
- You're honest about what you don't know. You ask before you guess.
- You show up clean, on time, and presentable. The van is washed. The shirt is tucked.
- You're comfortable using a phone for Jobber logging, Discord for team communication, and photos as documentation. We are tech-forward.
Bring us your other trades too. If you also carry real hands-on experience in electrical, plumbing, or HVAC — licensed or not — tell us. JC is growing into those service lines, and craftsmen with that range grow with us. The same goes for flooring, masonry, roofing, and concrete.
What you'll bring
- Personal hand tools (we provide tools for major items)
- Clean driving record (you'll be driving a company van)
- Reliable transportation to our daily start point
- Willingness to undergo a background check (Checkr)
- OSHA 10 or EPA certifications are a plus, not a requirement
What we don't want
Three filters to save us both time.
- Big-box mindset. If you've spent years at a high-volume contractor, a production framing crew, or commercial drywall where the rule was "get in, get out, get to the next house," your reflexes will fight us. We're not those guys.
- Loners who don't talk to clients. Half this job is the relationship. If you'd rather just be left alone with the work, we're not for you.
- Pickup-truck attitude. No diva behavior, no negativity, no excuses. We're a team. Our craftsmen lift each other up.
Growth path
Field leadership is the next step. Within 18 to 24 months, the right person grows into a field leadership role, coordinating other craftsmen, owning quality in the field, and earning a different comp profile. We promote from within whenever we can. As JC stands up dedicated electrical, plumbing, and HVAC lines, craftsmen with those trades will have first claim on leading them.
What we offer
- $30 to $40 per hour, W-2, full-time
- 100% of tips — yours, always. Clients tip. You keep every dollar.
- Company van and gas card — comes home with you every night
- Tools provided for major items; bring your own hand tools
- Flexible scheduling — ask off when you need it; you're paid for the hours you work
- Performance bonuses — review incentives, field performance bonuses, and client satisfaction rewards. Top performers earn meaningful additional income above the hourly rate.
- Year-end profit sharing — JC shares a portion of annual profits with the field team. Your share is tied to your performance and contribution through the year. Top performers earn a real year-end payout.
- No nights, no weekends in the standard cadence
- Direct access to founders. No corporate layer.
- A real path to field leadership
Hiring process
Eight stages. Yes, that's a lot. It's deliberate. We're a relationship-first company and we hire that way. Expect: application review, soft introduction call, CliftonStrengths Top 5 assessment, an in-depth craft and client presence interview, a full competency interview, a ride-along conversation with our field leadership, two reference calls with prior supervisors, then offer. Plan for two to three weeks total.
Apply
Submit your resume and a few photos of your finish work. Trim, doors, cabinetry, tile, anything you're proud of. The photos matter — applications without them wait at the back of the line. We read every word.
Joyce | Cline Home Services, Charlotte, NC
\nCompany DescriptionJoyce | Cline Home Services is a boutique home repair and maintenance firm based in Charlotte, North Carolina. We serve the older, established neighborhoods just south of downtown including Myers Park, Dilworth, Eastover, and Cotswold. Our clients are wealthy boomers in 5,000 square foot historic homes and young professional families chasing kids around. Most of our clients have been with us for years.
They call us first. They send their friends.
We're founder-led and engineer-built. Our two founders both came out of nuclear engineering and corporate leadership before starting Joyce | Cline. That shows up in how we run the company. We document everything. We build systems. We use the tools that make work easier, including Claude, Jobber, GoHighLevel, Discord, and a custom-built operations dashboard. We promote from within whenever we can.
We hire slowly and deliberately. Our craftsmen are W-2 employees with company vans and benefits, not 1099 contractors. Our office team works remotely with direct access to the founders. We pay above the Charlotte market for skilled work. We don't take nights or weekends in our standard cadence. We're growing carefully toward a regional footprint in the Southeast over the next three to five years.
