Job Summary

Unite Contracting seeks a dedicated, detail-oriented QC (Quality Control Welding Apprentice to join our manufacturing team. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in quality assurance and welding inspection within a dynamic production environment. The apprentice will support implementing quality standards, assist with measuring and inspecting welded components, and gain valuable hands-on experience maintaining compliance with industry welding regulations. The ideal candidate is motivated to learn, possesses mechanical aptitude, and is committed to ensuring the highest quality in welding processes. Hours are 6 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday to Friday, plus overtime.

Duties

  • Assist CWI senior quality control welding inspectors in performing dimensional measurements using precision measuring instruments such as height gauges, calipers, and coordinate measuring machines.
  • Support quality audits by collecting data, documenting inspection results, and ensuring adherence to ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and other relevant standards.
  • Conduct visual inspections of welded components utilizing vision inspection systems and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles.
  • Interpret mechanical blueprints and production documents to verify compliance with quality standards and specifications.
  • Participate in calibrating and maintaining measuring instruments to ensure measurement accuracy.
  • Support the implementation of regulatory/legal compliance standards including FDA regulations, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and HACCP protocols.
  • Assist in analyzing inspection data to identify trends or deviations from quality standards in production.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to understand process controls and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, measurements, and audit findings for review and reporting purposes.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or coursework in manufacturing, mechanical engineering, or related fields preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes, mechanical blueprint interpretation, and measurement techniques.
  • Familiarity with quality systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 13485, GMP, and QA/QC principles.
  • Experience with measuring instruments including calipers, height gauges, vision inspection systems, and coordinate measuring machines is advantageous.
  • Understanding of quality standards in production environments and the ability to interpret production documents accurately.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail for precise measurement and inspection tasks.
  • Basic math skills necessary for dimensional measurements and data analysis.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions while proactively learning new skills.
  • Commitment to regulatory compliance standards, including FDA regulations and GMP practices in manufacturing settings.
