Production Manager
- Are you a hands-on leader who takes pride in getting things done?
- Do you enjoy leading people, organizing complex work, and delivering on commitments?
If so, ICL may be the right fit for you!
About the Role
Immunology Consultants Laboratory, Inc. (ICL) is looking for an experienced, motivated Production Manager to lead our production team and ensure projects are planned, tracked, and completed on time and to ICL’s quality standards.
The ideal candidate brings experience managing people and workflows in a laboratory, biotechnology, diagnostics, life-science manufacturing, or other technically demanding environment. A strong scientific foundation—particularly in biology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology, or a related discipline—is highly valued.
This is a hands-on production leadership role for someone who enjoys bringing people, processes, materials, and priorities together. You do not need to be a technical or scientific expert on day one.
What You’ll Do
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of laboratory technicians.
- Plan, prioritize, and assign production activities and projects based on demand forecasts, capacity, workload, and resource availability.
- Monitor production progress, track performance metrics, and resolve bottlenecks to meet customer and business commitments.
- Coordinate materials, inventory, and equipment availability, including forecasting requirements and managing maintenance and external vendor relationships.
- Serve as the primary operational liaison, building strong cross-functional relationships among Production, Sales, Logistics, Operations, Quality, and R&D.
- Drive employee development by coordinating technical training, identifying competency gaps, and ensuring team members can perform their roles effectively.
- Develop deep technical knowledge of ICL's products and processes to guide production decisions, balancing independent judgment with R&D expertise when necessary.
- Maintain strict quality, documentation, and procedural compliance, acting as key support for customer audits, USDA inspections, and other regulatory activities.
- Analyze production data and metrics to identify root causes and drive continuous improvements in efficiency, workflow, and capacity.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone with strong leadership and operational experience and the ambition to become a technically knowledgeable leader within ICL.
Required / Core Qualifications
- 2–5+ years of demonstrated experience leading, supervising, or coordinating a team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomechanical Engineering,
- Experience in production, operations, laboratory operations, manufacturing, project coordination, or a related environment.
- Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, including the ability to work with data, identify trends, investigate problems, and focus on root causes.
- Ability to read, understand, analyze, and communicate quality-system documents, procedures, technical information, and regulatory or compliance-related materials.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or comparable tools and comfort working with spreadsheets, process documentation, and tracking systems.
- Ability to work on-site at ICL in Portland, Oregon.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant scientific or related field.
- Experience in a quality-focused, regulated, laboratory, manufacturing, or life-science environment.
- Experience working with controlled documents, process maps, audit records, or quality-system tracking tools.
- Experience with production planning, capacity management, inventory, or materials coordination.
Who You’ll Be
- People Leader – You set clear expectations, coach effectively, develop employees, and hold people accountable.
- Operationally Disciplined – You are organized, structured, and comfortable managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Curious – You genuinely want to understand how and why things work.
- A Fast Learner – You can absorb technical information and progressively apply what you learn with increasing confidence.
- A Problem Solver – You look beyond symptoms, use data, and work toward sustainable root-cause solutions.
- Collaborative – You work constructively across departments and recognize the value of different areas of expertise.
- Accountable – You take ownership, follow issues through to resolution, and meet commitments.
- Improvement-Minded – You naturally look for ways to improve processes, workflows, and team performance.
What We Offer
- Generous Time Off – 10 days of PTO to start, increasing after one year, plus sick time.
- Comprehensive Insurance – Employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- Family Coverage Options – Prorated plans are available for employees who add dependents to their insurance.
- Fast-Tracked Benefits – Insurance plans begin on the first of the month after your hire date.
- Financial Security – Employer-funded Basic Life and AD&D insurance.
- Retirement Planning – 401(k) with a company match of up to 4%.
- Comfortable Work Environment – Work in a temperature-controlled, air-conditioned laboratory environment.
- Community Connection – Opportunities to participate in volunteer activities.
- Professional Stability – Join an established organization where professionals work closely together to deliver quality outcomes.
Why Join ICL?
At ICL, you will have the opportunity to do more than manage a production schedule. You will lead a team, work across the organization, solve operational challenges, and develop your understanding of the science and products behind our work.
We value people who take ownership, ask questions, learn continuously, and look for ways to improve.
If you are an organized, curious, people-focused leader who is ready to take on a new challenge and build your technical expertise along the way, we would love to hear from you.
