About this position
Elbow Bread is a corner bakery from baker Zoë Kanan, created in collaboration with Court Street Grocers and S&P Lunch. We sit on the elbow-shaped corner of Canal and Ludlow, where Chinatown meets the Lower East Side.
We’re an “everyday bakery” inspired by our neighborhood’s history, baking daily bread and pastry, and brewing coffee for our community. Our approach is craft-driven and flavor forward. We work with sourdough and natural leavening, freshly milled and wholegrain flours, and seasonal produce. We bake in small batches throughout the day so the case is always fresh.
Our offerings range from sourdough loaves and challah to inventive laminated pastry, soft pretzels, knishes, babka, cakes, doughnuts, and more. We’re a small team looking for a baker who brings both strong prior experience and is excited to grow with us and help build a baker-owned and operated bakery.
Schedule & Pay
- 4 day, 10hr work week (4 days on / 3 days off)
- Weekend availability required / some shifts start as early as 4am
- Pay: $22–$25/hour, based on experience
What You’ll Do
- Scale, mix, and shape naturally leavened and yeasted doughs
- Laminate and shape croissants, danishes, and specialty pastries
- Bake off bread, pastry, and other daily production
- Support production for special events, collaborations, and holidays
- Keep the bakery and equipment clean, organized, and sanitary
- Help with inventory and receiving deliveries
- Back up teammates so each day’s production runs smoothly
What We’re Looking For
- 2-3 years of professional baking experience
- Familiarity with sourdough and lamination
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Curious, passionate, and eager to learn
- Able to lift 50+ lb and stand for long periods
- At least 18 years old and authorized to work in the U.S.
