About this position
Automotive Technicians perform routine and complex maintenance on postal vehicles. The work may include diagnosing engine and supporting-system problems, using computerized and electronic testing equipment, completing inspections and road tests, responding to vehicle breakdowns and maintaining accurate repair records, labor entries and work orders.Key responsibilities
- Diagnose vehicle problems and inspect engines, supporting systems and components.
- Perform routine and complex repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Use computerized and electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Conduct visual and operational vehicle inspections.
- Complete road tests or respond to road calls when assigned.
- Prepare and update vehicle records, labor entries and work orders.
- Follow established repair-quality and workplace-safety procedures.
Required qualifications
- A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required; relevant vocational or technical training is preferred.
- Prior hands-on automotive repair experience is preferred; relevant certifications, apprenticeships or equivalent training may also be considered.
- Applicants must successfully complete any required pre-employment assessment and background check. A valid driver's license may be required depending on the vacancy.
- Ability to lift and carry tools, parts or equipment weighing up to 70 pounds; ability to stand, bend, kneel and work in varying shop conditions; and willingness to follow all equipment, electrical and workplace safety procedures, including use of required personal protective equipment.
