About this position
Assistant Rural Carriers primarily deliver and collect packages along designated suburban and rural routes. Assignments may focus on weekends and holidays or include parcel delivery on additional days. The position involves sorting and handling packages, driving an assigned route and working outdoors in changing weather. A personal vehicle may be required for some openings.Key responsibilities
- Sort and prepare mail and packages for delivery.
- Deliver mail and packages along assigned suburban or rural routes.
- Collect outgoing mail and packages from customers or designated locations.
- Operate an assigned postal or personal vehicle when required by the vacancy.

Required qualifications
- A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- No prior work experience is required; new employees receive comprehensive on-the-job training.
- A valid state driver's license, a safe driving record and successful completion of any required pre-employment assessment are required.
- A personal vehicle may be required for this route, depending on the vacancy. Employees who use a personal vehicle are reimbursed for mileage in accordance with current postal guidelines.
- Ability to lift and carry mail and packages weighing up to 70 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation; ability to stand, walk and reach for extended periods, including outdoor work in varying weather conditions; and willingness to follow all vehicle and workplace safety procedures.
