About this position

Job Description

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Marine Welder / Fabricator to join our boat building team. In this role, you will build and repair high-quality marine vessels, including hulls, decks, and internal structures. You will work with specialized marine metals like aluminum and stainless steel. Because boats have curved shapes and tight compartments, you must be comfortable making precise welds in difficult, non-traditional positions. The ideal candidate has several years of shipyard experience and can work independently from blueprint to final quality check.

Required Technical Skills

  • Advanced Welding Styles: Mastery of GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), and SMAW (Stick) welding.
  • Material Expertise: High proficiency welding aluminum and stainless steel, which require precise heat control to prevent warping.
  • Position Flexibility: Ability to create perfect, strong welds in all positions—flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
  • Tool Mastery: Skill with fabrication equipment like oxy-acetylene torches, bandsaws, calipers, and slag hammers.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven welding experience specifically within a marine or shipbuilding environment.
  • Certifications: Current welding certifications (such as AWS D1.1, AWS D3.5, or marine structural certifications) are highly preferred.
  • Terminology: Familiarity with basic boat terminology (like bow, stern, port, and starboard) to communicate easily with the rest of the crew

Key Responsibilities

  • Structural Welding: Join metal components to build boat hulls, frames, decks, and bulkheads using MIG, TIG, and Stick welding techniques.
  • Blueprint Reading: Interpret complex 2D blueprints, marine schematics, and weld symbols to plan layout and construction steps.
  • Precision Fabrication: Measure, cut, bend, and fit metal pieces perfectly using tools like grinders, plasma cutters, and brake presses.
  • Pipe Fitting & Welding: Weld fluid, fuel, and exhaust pipelines that run throughout the vessel.
  • Quality Assurance: Inspect your own finished work for cracks, holes, or defects, ensuring they can pass strict marine inspections like X-rays.
  • Refits and Repairs: Cut away damaged or corroded sections of older boats and weld in fresh, sturdy metal replacements.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow strict safety rules, including wearing specialized safety gear (PPE) and keeping a clean workspace to prevent fire hazards.

  • Position: Marine Welder / Fabricator
  • Location: Everett, WA
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday
  • Hours: 7:30am to 4:00pm
  • Pay Range: $37.00 – $52.00/DOE
  • Long term (temp-to-hire)
  • Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Rx.com, Virtual Primary Care(VPC), and Washington paid sick leave
