City Carrier Assistants sort, deliver and collect mail along assigned city routes, either on foot or by vehicle. Required qualifications
- A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- No prior work experience is required; new employees receive comprehensive on-the-job training.
- A valid state driver's license, a safe driving record and successful completion of any required pre-employment assessment are required.
- Ability to lift and carry mail and packages weighing up to 70 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation; ability to stand, walk and reach for extended periods, including outdoor work in varying weather conditions; and willingness to follow all vehicle and workplace safety procedures.

Work environment and physical requirements

Compensation and benefits
USD 44117.00–45157.00 per year.

This is generally a non-career appointment with the possibility of reappointment based on operational needs. Eligible City Carrier Assistants earn paid leave at the rate of one hour for every 20 hours in pay status, receive holiday pay for designated postal holidays, and receive contractual wage increases.
Eligible employees may enroll in the USPS Health Benefits Plan with a Postal Service contribution toward the premium. Employees who receive a subsequent appointment may become eligible for additional health coverage, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts, and long-term-care insurance. Wounded Warrior Leave may be available to qualifying employees. The position may provide a path to a career appointment, but conversion is not guaranteed.
