Job Purpose

To perform skilled structural and welding to include but not limited to the layout and fabricate metal structural parts, such as plates, bulkheads, and frames, and brace them in position within hull or ship for riveting or welding. May prepare molds and templates for fabrication of nonstandard parts

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Applies appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials.
  2. Works from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts or work orders.
  3. May lay out and marks points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates.
  4. May position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.
  5. Layout and fabricate metal structural parts, such as plates, bulkheads, and frames, and brace them in position within hull or ship for riveting or welding. May prepare molds and templates for fabrication of nonstandard parts.
  6. Additional duties as assigned

Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. 

Education and Experience 

High school degree or equivalent, 4-6 years welding/ship fitting experience required 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Satisfactory company work records, including attendance.
  2. Manual dexterity skills.
  3. PPE is required.
  4. Willingness to work either day or afternoon shifts and regular Saturday and Sunday overtime, if required.
