About the Role

The Company is seeking an Associate General Counsel and Privacy Officer to serve as a trusted advisor with a primary focus on privacy, information and cyber security, and data governance. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the laws, regulations, and industry best practices in these areas to effectively interface with institutional officials and other stakeholders. Responsibilities include advising on a wide range of data-related issues, overseeing the daily operations of the privacy program, and ensuring compliance with privacy obligations such as FERPA, HIPAA, GDPR, and various state and federal regulations. The role also involves partnering with university officials to identify and mitigate legal and operational risks, developing and revising policies and procedures, and managing the data subject access request process. Applicants must have a Juris Doctor degree, a minimum of 5 years' legal experience, and be admitted to the bar in at least one U.S. state. Preferred qualifications include privacy certification and experience in higher education, particularly in an academic medical center. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in privacy, cyber security, and data governance, with at least 5 years' of specialized experience. Key skills include excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills, the ability to work independently in a complex organization, and a commitment to ethical decision-making. The role requires the ability to manage a high volume of work, strong organizational and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with senior university leadership. Experience in cyber-incident response, security and privacy program implementation, or AI governance is also desirable.
